Arcade Finder mentioned in GameRoom Magazine!
11/28/2008 10:21:39 PM By Chris Mansfield
We're a bit late in discovering and acknowledging this, as I was just catching up on back issues this evening when I stumbled across it, but Aurcade.com (formerly Arcade Finder) got a write up in Mitch Gerson's "GameRoom News" column in the September 2008 issue of the fabulous GameRoom Magazine, complete with a screenshot of Barcade's entry:

"It used to be easy. When you were a kid, you wanted to play a video game so you went to your local pizza place, arcade or grocery store and boom, video games lined up for your pleasure.

These days finding an arcade (or a video game machine) locally can be somewhat of a scavenger hunt as they are simply hard to find. Well your problems have been solved. David Hernley and Charles Gibbs have been frustrated enough times to have put their heads (and databases) together for the collective good of mankind and created the official -- Arcade Finder!"

Many thanks to Mitch and to editor and publisher Kevin Steele for the mention. They'll be glad to know that I just renewed my subscription yesterday, although that's just a happy coincidence :) By the way, congratulations Mitch on your bouncing new baby boy (mentioned in the December issue that arrived today)!

Galaga Gets Ran Over on Popular List
11/19/2008 3:28:48 PM By Joe McDonald
Galaga, one of Namco's most popular titles of all time has fallen from the most popular games board. It was replaced today by the popular Fast and the Furious: Super Bikes. The current popular standings are:

Ms. Pac-Man / Galaga : Class of 1981
Ms. Pac-Man
Time Crisis 3
Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age Of Heroes
Fast and the Furious: Super Bikes, The
Centipede
Tekken 5

Keep submitting gang, who knows maybe Galaga may make a return back to the top.
Ms. Pac-Man Leads The Way, Galaga In Pursuit...
10/31/2008 10:54:25 AM By David Hernly
Just added a 'most popular' list to the main page showing the top games that are listed on Arcade Finder. Ms. Pac-Man, in the original and anniversary versions, leads the pack. Galaga is not far behind, still in the top 10.

So if you combine the anniversary cabinet with the originals, Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga seem to have staying power in the arcades.

It's great to see the classics holding up so well.

New: Personal Score Tracking
8/31/2008 9:50:34 PM By David Hernly
Hey everyone!

I'm still trying to get PM and Forums up, but I took a few hours and added something else: Personal Score Tracking. This allows anyone with a registered account to keep track of their own scores and goals for any game. Trying to get 1 million on Donkey Kong and want to keep a log of your progress? That's what it's for!

If you have an account, you can view and track your own scores here:

Adding Games
7/2/2008 2:37:03 PM By Charles Gibbs
Yesterday I discussed adding locations, today we will discuss adding games to those locations, and if necessary, adding games to the database.

First of all we'll talk about adding games to a location.

1) Click on "Locations" in the table on the left.

2) Select the location you want to add a game to, for example, Auric's Arcade.

3) Under the description of the loaction you should see two links : "Edit Location" and "Add Game", click on "Add Game".

4) The Location should be pre-selected, in the next drop-down, select the game you wish to add to your location, add in the type (upright, deluxe, etc.), any comments you wish to make about the game (i.e. playability, cupholders, etc.), and the last 3 boxes are for the condition of aspects of the game : Controls, Screen, and Cabinet, based on a 5-point scale.

5) Once you have set these, click on "Save Changes", and there you have it, you've added a game to your location.

Now I know that it's possible that a game you are looking for is not in our database. Yes, we know it's incomplete, that's why we rely on you, the user, to help us complete it, and here's how :

1) In the left toolbar, click on "Games"

2) On the right-hand side, under the "Search" button, click on "Add Game".

3) The only necessary information is the Name of the game, the Manufacturer if it's known, and whether or not the game is Pinball. The rest of the information is entirely optional, but do feel free to enter the Genre of the game, year released, KLOV (Killer List of Videogames) ID, the TG (Twin Galaxies) Link, and a description of the game.

Once you have done this, click on "Save Changes" and return to the top of this list to add the game to your locations.
FAQ's
7/1/2008 10:07:05 AM By Charles Gibbs
I'm going to break this down into a couple of categories :

For starters, let's talk about the Add Location functionality. If the arcade you are looking for is not currently in the Location list, click on Add Location (It's right next to the go button, in green letters). Next you want to declare the name of the location. Is it a Chuck E. Cheese in Guadalajara, or a Namco Arcade in some mall in a town called Scrshy?

1)Specify what it is, put the name of the location in the first space.

2)Declare the type of location, i.e. amusement park, arcade, laser tag, etc.

3)Include any general information about the location, for instance, "this arcade includes a bowling alley, a full service bar, and a place to lay your head." Anything you think would be interesting should go here.

4)Does the location have a website, if so include it here.

5)Physical location information, address, phone number.

6)If you have entered in physical location information, click on "Set Geocode", this will get the exact latitude and longitude for this location, to show the difference between your current location, and your destination's exact position.
**Note** If you have not included any physical location information, clicking "Set Geocode" will not do anything, as it has nothing to pull the coordinates from.

7)After you have input all this information, you want to click "Save Changes" to add this location to our database of accessible gamerspots. If you were testing, please click "Delete" to rescind your changes.

That's it for adding a location, the next FAQ will be to add a game to the database.

If there is anything I can help you with, please PM me, I'd be happy to answer any questions.

Thanks,
Charles
